The then American President Abraham Lincoln defined democracy as the "Government of the people, by the people, and for the people." Democracy is a gradual process in which people select their government through the system of votes. The freedom of speech is the most important thing in a democracy. It is better to remember that sometimes excessive freedom destroys the simplicity of the people. Ours is a democratic country and has a well-defined constitution. This constitution has given us the power to choose our government. Democracy imposes a great deal of responsibility on the people, because it is on their sense of judgment that the quality of the government depends. People should, therefore, be very careful for their democratic rights. Democracy is truly an ideal form of government. So, all of us should try to practice the ideals of democracy in every sphere of our life.
