Essay: Life of a Rickshaw Puller

A rickshaw puller is a common figure nowadays in a town or city. He is found in large number in a town. A rickshaw puller puts on dirty clothes. He has a burnt face. He always sweats because of hard work. Sometimes the rickshaw-puller may not have any rickshaw of his own. He hires the rickshaw daily from a rickshaw owner at a fixed rate. This takes away the greater portion of his day’s earning. What little is left with him hardly suffices to make both ends meet. He earns money only at the expense of his health and vitality. In a heavily crowded road of street, accidents do happen and happen often with terrible consequences. Sometimes the Rickshaw-Wala himself is killed or seriously wounded. Sometimes his rickshaw is broken to pieces. A rickshaw puller lives in a slum area. He becomes happy if he can manage two square meals and coarse cloth of the members of his family. His service is really very great. He is a great friend to us all.
