The Rani of Jhansi Biography

[ A legendary name, Her birth and early life, As a ruler, Dealings with the British, A leader of the Mutiny, Her health, Character] The name of Lakshmi Bai, Rani of Jhansi, is enshrined in legends. Her deeds are sung by village minstrels throughout central and upper India. She was the queen of a small principality, but she yet reigns supreme in the hearts of millions of her countrymen. The Women's auxiliary corps attached to Netaji Subhas Bose's Army of Liberation was named after her. She has passed into history; she has become a name to conjure with. The British Govt. tried to occupy the childless Rani's Kingdom. But Laksmi bai resisted with her troops. Though a woman in her teens, she herself led her soldier on horseback and dropped down dead, fighting to her last breath. She thus passed into history and legends.
