Gandhara School of art also known as Graeco-Buddhist School of art was based on Graeco-Roman norms. It displays foreign techniques in its style. This school of art uses Grey sandstone while marble was not used. Gandhara style imbibes different traits of Parthian, Bactrian and Acamenian traditions.
The different gestures of Buddha depicted in Gandhara school of Art are as following:
Bhumisparshamudra: touching the earth
Dhyanmudra: meditation
Dharmachakramudra: a preaching mudra
Abhaymudra: Don’t fear
The major centres where art pieces of Gandhara School were found are namely Taxila, Jalalabad, Hadda, Bamaran and Begram. Both Kushanas and Shakas patronized Gandhara school.
